Perfect Camera Settings for Wedding Photography

Whether you own a Sony, Canon, Nike, or Fuji, there’s a big question that lingers on every novice wedding photographer – what should be the camera settings in an ideal scenario?

At Bright Focus Photography, we will be sharing some of our camera settings with beginners in the photography field. We will divide the blog post into three different groups, i.e., aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. In an ideal scenario, you should adopt the following techniques for your next photography session.

  • Keep the aperture as wide as open
  • Set the shutter speed to fast enough to avoid blurry photos
  • Keep the ISO as low as possible to prevent noise

Aperture

If you are anything like us, you would be a massive fan of blurry background. What it does is that it blurs out the background and keeps the people as the primary focus. As a result, you will get sharp tack images if you use a Sony camera.

In conclusion, make sure to keep your camera as wide as possible. For that purpose, you can go as low as f/1.4 to f/2.8 in your aperture settings.

Shutter Speed

Your primary intent behind fetching the perfect shutter speed should be to avoid blurring. As a professional photographer, the last thing you want on your guilty conscience is the subject to blur.

You can set the shutter speed to be 1/320 or 1/500 because you will couple it with a wide aperture. However, you will encounter a few cases in low-light where you will need to set it to 1/200.

ISO

Make sure to keep your ISO as low as you can to avoid noise. It does not matter which camera you own because all of the major brands have decent lenses. If you want to a fun experiment, crank your ISO up to 8000, and you will be surprised to see the superficial amount of noise.

If you have little to no experience, you should have no trouble going over 3000 ISO during portraits.

Wrapping it up

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or an expert in the field, we highly recommend that you take care of the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. It will not only increase the grace of your images but will further enhance the tiny bits that merge into huge details.
