What to Expect During and After High School Senior Photoshoots?

High school senior photography is no different from other photography styles. Several high school senior clients I’ve worked with also had some concerns about this genre of photography before booking an appointment with me.

As with lifestyle photography sessions, most of the questions they ask tend to be about what to do during and after a senior photoshoot.

So, if you have the same concerns, here are some of the things you can expect:

Common things to expect during your high school senior photography session

1)   You will need to change clothes plenty of times.

Depending on the makeup needed and your preferred location, you will most likely spend a lot of your time changing into and out of different clothes.

Having three to four different sets of clothes gives you more options in terms of which style suits you better for a particular part of a session.

So, if you want to save time, having at least one button-down shirt in your repertoire may provide you with the convenience that you will need. It is also a lot less hassle when you’re trying to jump from one location to another.

2)   You will need to communicate consistently with your high school senior photographer.

If you are the type of person who prefers solitude and generally doesn’t like engaging in small talk, you may need to forgo that for a while if you were to have me on board as your senior high school photographer since I will need to talk things through with you during the entire high school senior photography session.

While this might make you feel a little anxious, it is vital because we will need to discuss any ideas or preferences you may have that you will want me to capture. We may also need to talk about where you want to have the shoot and look around for the most ideal space.

In addition to that, I will also need to guide you to get into the types of poses and angles that will bring out the best and most photogenic version of yourselves.

3)   The session may take more than an hour.

Contrary to popular belief, every high school senior photography session doesn’t sound as simple as it seems. In fact, it usually takes an hour or two for one senior portrait session with me to finish.

The reason for this is that there are several factors to consider, such as the weather, your preferences as a client, the clothes you’re wearing, the concepts involved, the ideal lighting conditions, the themes you want to incorporate, getting the perfect angles, and the poses that work best for you, among other things.

As a lifestyle photographer, I am passionate about my craft, and this means that I will want everything during our sessions to be perfect for you as my client.

4)   You will most probably feel stiff and awkward on your first try.

This is likely to be expected and goes without saying, but most of the clients I’ve worked with usually feel stiff and awkward during their first time in front of the camera.

However, there is no need to worry if you find yourself in the same shoes during our photoshoot.

It is normal to feel awkward at first, especially if it’s the first time that you have been the subject of a professional portrait session.

Nonetheless, I am here to guide you for the little things that would help me take perfect snaps of you.

I can direct you as to where to place your arms, where to stand, how to sit, or where to lean, so you don’t have to worry about them any longer. All you have to do is to relax and just enjoy every moment of your session filled with photography for high school seniors.

Common things to expect after your high school senior photography session

1)   Some documents will need to be signed.

After our senior picture session, I may need to ask your parents to sign a model release form, but you will have to wait for a while before you can get the complete results.

2)   Waiting time may take a while.

As I mentioned earlier, you may need to wait for your high school senior photos to be ready before you can see them. It usually takes around two to three weeks before you can pick up the prints.

All in all

A session of photography for high school seniors may not sound much, but there are still plenty of things that you need to consider during and after a shoot.
